Battlebots Posters
A step by step process into making a Tombstone piece, because there are some doubters. Battlebots! Where robots literally fight to the death. Also included are Witch Doctor and Hypershock drawings.
Started with the box! Actually made this before the Witch Doctor one. I always imagined I'd put any and all bots I make in front of it. Didn't expect them all to cover it so much, though haha I would've put less effort into it...
Linework, tones, texture and color; in that order, is how I work. Here's the first sketch idea for Tombstone
More fleshed out sketch, with shadows I abandoned. But then I decided I really should have Tombstone just sitting normal lol. I thought I would get shit for having him on his butt. Dont know where the reaper went, he must've gotten in the way of somethin
Full BG sketch, then linework with lighting sketch.
A little out of order, this linework was from later when I was focusing on the lightning. Then here's the tone work. You can see how I got the logo, I never found the font.
Highlights and textures to the tones, some light rays. The grave is mostly highlights. Then a color pass - I hated everything being red lol.
Here's the final, went with something that mixes red and blue. I also tweaked the BG a bunch. Added crosses and adjusted the Reaper to make it more symmetrical. Also added grain to help the bot pop more.
